FXGT Review for traders in South Africa: Forex & Crypto CFD Trading
FXGT is FSCA-regulated in South Africa — direct local oversight for South African traders. Its combination of MT4/MT5, crypto, synthetic assets and leverage up to 1:5000 is strong for active traders. The absence of FCA or ASIC regulation is worth noting for those who prioritise top-tier protection.
Consensus Rating
The rating evaluates 42 key factors, from regulation and costs to execution, product offering and support. The score combines analysis from multiple experts and competitor comparisons to provide an aggregated and balanced assessment. This reduces individual bias and offers a more reliable reference for broader market consensus.
FXGT is an online forex and CFD broker founded in 2019 and headquartered in Seychelles. It operates under licences from the FSA in Seychelles, the FSCA in South Africa and the VFSC in Vanuatu, though it does not hold top-tier regulatory licences from the FCA or ASIC. The platform offers ~185 instruments across forex, cryptocurrencies, indices, US stocks and commodities, with a notable differentiator being its range of synthetic crypto pairs and DeFi tokens. Trading is available via MT4, MT5, a browser-based FXGT Trader and a mobile app. Multiple account types cater to different profiles — from Standard and Mini for beginners to ECN Zero and Optimus for active traders seeking tight spreads and leverage up to 1:5000. The minimum deposit starts from $5. Client funds are held in segregated accounts with negative balance protection and a claimed €1 million liability insurance. Copy trading is supported across all account types.

Costs are competitive on PRO and ECN accounts but opaque on swaps
FXGT offers five account types with varying fee structures.
The ECN Zero account provides raw spreads from 0.0 pips on EUR/USD with a $6 round-turn commission per standard lot for forex, $5 round-turn for metals, and 0.1% round-turn for crypto.
The PRO account offers spreads from 0.5 pips on EUR/USD with zero commission, translating to roughly $5 effective cost per lot — competitive with industry mid-tier brokers.
The Standard+ and Mini accounts carry wider 1.0-pip minimum spreads with no commission, resulting in approximately $10 per lot on EUR/USD.
There are no deposit fees charged by FXGT (third-party fees may apply) and no withdrawal fees on most methods, with the exception of JPY bank wires. An inactivity fee of $10/month kicks in after 90 days of dormancy, with some reports mentioning an initial $20 one-time charge. Fee transparency is moderate — while spreads and commissions are clearly published, swap fees and currency conversion markups are less transparent.
Swap/overnight fees follow a tiered swap-free structure: the PRO account offers 6 days swap-free on major forex pairs, metals, indices, and energies, after which standard swaps or admin fees apply. The ECN Zero account gets 3 days swap-free on gold (XAUUSD) only. Islamic (fully swap-free) accounts are available upon request. One estimate places EUR/USD overnight swap at approximately -$6.50 per lot for long positions, which is typical for the industry.
Account funding is flexible with crypto-first design
The minimum deposit is just $5 for Mini and Standard+ accounts, $10 for Optimus and Daytrading accounts, and $100 for ECN Zero and PRO accounts — among the lowest in the industry. Deposits can be made via credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB), e-wallets (Neteller, SticPay, Bitwallet), mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay), bank wire, and multiple cryptocurrencies including BTC, ETH, USDT (ERC20 and TRC20), XRP, and ADA. Binance Pay is also supported. PayPal is notably absent.
Account base currencies include both fiat (USD, EUR, JPY) and crypto (BTC, ETH, USDT, ADA, XRP), reflecting FXGT's crypto-hybrid positioning.
Deposit processing is instant for cards and e-wallets, 1–30 minutes for crypto, and 1–3 business days for bank wires. Withdrawal processing is claimed within 24 hours internally, with final receipt depending on method — instant to 48 hours for e-wallets, up to 2 business days for cards, and up to 5 business days for bank wires.
Clients can deposit up to $2,000 before completing KYC verification but must complete it within 30 days. Demo accounts are available (up to 6 per client). Multi-currency accounts are supported through the eWallet system. Prepaid card funding is not explicitly offered. Registration is straightforward with a $2,000 deposit threshold before full KYC is required.
However, withdrawal complaints represent the most significant red flag across independent review platforms. Common patterns include withdrawal refusals after profitable trades, profit confiscation citing "violation of trading rules," and accounts being zeroed after withdrawal requests. There are also reports of suspicious positive reviews.
MT4, MT5, and a new TradingView-powered proprietary platform
FXGT supports MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 across desktop, web, and mobile (iOS/Android), alongside two proprietary products launched in 2024: the FXGT Trader web platform (powered by TradingView charting with 100+ indicators and 90+ drawing tools) and the FXGT mobile app.
MT5 is the primary platform, offering 38 built-in indicators, 46 graphical objects, and an advanced toolkit with additional execution tools.
Execution quality shows mixed signals. Server ping is reported as low as 2ms, but average transaction speed is around 619.8ms, with closing order speeds reaching 800ms+ — a concern for scalpers and high-frequency strategies. News-event spread widening on gold can be extreme in volatile conditions.
The execution model is STP (Straight Through Processing) with ECN-style pricing on the ECN Zero account. Whether true DMA (Direct Market Access) is provided is not independently confirmed, despite claims of institutional-grade execution.
VPS hosting is available free through a sponsorship program requiring a $3,000+ balance and minimum monthly trading volume. Algorithmic trading is fully supported via Expert Advisors on MT4/MT5 with no strategy restrictions — hedging, scalping, and news trading are all permitted. Trading servers are located in London (GMT+1).
Roughly 185 instruments with a crypto-forward tilt
FXGT's instrument selection is limited compared to major brokers but includes some unique offerings. The total count ranges from approximately 117 to 185+ depending on the source.
The breakdown includes approximately:
50–54 forex pairs
33+ cryptocurrency CFDs
50+ stock CFDs (major US equities)
10–13 indices
3 precious metals
3 energies
Distinctive crypto offerings include synthetic crypto pairs, DeFi tokens, NFTs, and a proprietary crypto index composed of the 12 largest cryptocurrencies.
However, FXGT does not offer bonds, ETFs, options, futures, or fractional shares, and there is no IPO access. The stock CFD selection is limited to major US names. Overall, the instrument range falls well below the 1,000+ assets offered by leading multi-asset brokers.
Copy trading exists, but no PAMM or robust social features
FXGT offers copy trading integrated with MetaTrader platforms, allowing users to mirror other traders' strategies or become strategy providers. Users can switch roles, access detailed strategy histories, and set risk controls.
However, this relies on MetaTrader’s built-in signals marketplace rather than a proprietary social trading platform. PAMM accounts are not offered. There is no dedicated social trading community, sentiment feed, or trader interaction features beyond the copy mechanism.
Alternative Provider
AvaTrade
AvaTrade holds a direct FSCA license in South Africa — genuine local oversight, not just offshore access. For South African traders who take regulation seriously, that's a meaningful starting point, and the full platform suite including copy trading and AvaProtect delivers real depth beyond just the regulatory story.
