Qué es una Orden de Compra o Venta a Precio de Mercado


Cuando esté listo para comprar o vender una acción u otro instrumento financiero, existen dos formas principales de determinar el precio al que se negociará: la orden a precio de mercado y la orden límite. Con las órdenes de mercado, se intercambian las acciones al precio actual en que se esté ofreciendo la acción o instrumento. 


Este tipo de orden que es tanto de compra como de venta, es la más básica que existe. En pocas palabras, consiste entonces en comprar o vender un instrumento financiero inmediatamente, al precio disponible del mercado. 


Ejemplo: Si un inversor compra acciones a mercado, pagará el precio "Ask", si lo que precisa es vender las acciones (o cualquier instrumento) a precio de mercado, pagará el precio "Bid".


Ventajas y Desventajas de las órdenes a Precio de Mercado


La mayor ventaja de una orden a precio de mercado es que el Broker puede ejecutarla con velocidad, porque este tipo de orden le está comunicando al Broker que tome el mejor precio disponible en ese momento. Si está comprando una acción, se ejecutará una orden de mercado al precio que solicite el vendedor. Si está vendiendo, se ejecutará una orden de mercado en cualquier oferta que haga el comprador.


La mayor desventaja de la orden a precio de mercado es que el inversor no puede especificar el precio de la operación. Sin embargo, muchas veces eso no importa. Para las grandes empresas que son altamente líquidas (es decir, que muchas personas compran y venden), la diferencia entre el precio de oferta de los compradores y el precio de venta de los vendedores, llamado el diferencial de oferta y demanda, generalmente es solo un centavo o dos. A menos que compre una gran cantidad de acciones, esa diferencia no tiene mayor importancia.
