QUÉ ES UNA MARGIN CALL

Si recibiste un aviso de atención de tu plataforma de Trading, puede que estés en problemas. Aquí te explicamos qué es, cómo resolverlo y por qué no debes ignorar esta llamada.

Qué es una Llamada de Margen?


Se trata de una alerta de tu Broker, de que tus posiciones no van bien. De hecho, has llegado al mínimo permitido para mantener abierta tu posición.  Este mínimo es el margen de mantenimiento: la cantidad de capital que debes mantener en tu cuenta mientras tengas una posición abierta. Puede ir del 8% al 40% del valor total de los valores en una cuenta, según el activo y los requisitos de la Autoridad Reguladora de la Industria Financiera (FINRA).



¿Por qué recibí una alerta de mi Broker?


Vamos a explicarlo con un ejemplo. Si tienes invertido $1000, debes mantener una cantidad mínima de $250 en tu cuenta. Ahora, si el valor de tu patrimonio aumenta a $1500, este margen también aumenta a $375. Es un porcentaje del total, que dependerá de cada Broker pero generalmente se trata del 25%. Si el valor de tus inversiones cae por debajo de ese monto, recibirás la tan temida llamada.

¿Qué sucede si ignoras la Margin Call?


Cuando recibes una notificación de la plataforma de Trading tienes dos opciones:


  1. Depositar más efectivo en la cuenta, para llevar el nivel de fondos hasta el margen de mantenimiento.

  2. No hacer nada y en este caso, el Broker cerrará las posiciones de tu cuenta sin consultarte. Se toma esta medida para cumplir con el margen de mantenimiento: ningún Broker va a asumir las pérdidas en tu nombre. Pero siempre recibirá una advertencia de su corredor primero, y solo se tomarán medidas si continúa sin depositar en la cuenta.
