About Arcadis
Amsterdam-based Arcadis NV was founded in 1888. A design and engineering company, Arcadis, has an impressive global presence with over 350 offices. Interestingly, the company began in the field of land reclamation under the name Nederlandsche Heidemaatschappij. The name was changed to Arcadis in 1997.
Traded as ARCAD, Arcadis NV went public on the Euronext in 1995. The company stock is also part of the Next 150 index comprised of the 150 largest companies on the Euronext in terms of market capitalisation, after the companies listed on the Euronext 100.
Much of Arcadis NV's growth over the last several decades has been due to mergers and acquisitions. The company has purchased several British companies: AYH, EC Harris and Hyder Consulting. Arcadis also purchased Langdon & Seah, an Asian construction consulting company, in 2012. Penetration of new markets was also achieved, in part, via acquisitions. One such example is Brazil, with Arcadis entering the South American market in 1999, after a local firm's purchase, Logos.
